2017 Lakeside Royalty
Congratulations to the newly crowned 2017 Lakeside Queens & Princesses!
The 2017 Miss Lakeside Scholarship Pageant took place on Saturday, February 18th. With an "Americana" theme, the entire evening was very patriotic with red, white & blue adorning everything from the beautifully decorated stage to the foyer of the theater. With three panels of judges and weeks of preparation, in the end, only one can carry the title of Miss Lakeside, Teen Miss Lakeside and Pre-Teen Jr. Miss Lakeside 2017.
Much goes into consideration in the selection of the youth ambassadors to carry the responsibility that comes with the crown, as these young ladies will go on to volunteer hundreds of hours in the following year while representing Lakeside. In 2016 the Queens and their court raised over $71,000 for various charities and fundraisers while volunteering countless hours in their community, and throughout the county with the town of Lakeside across their hearts.
Hours before the door open on the day of the pageant, the girls begin the competition by giving a personal speech and having a sit down interview with the panel of judges.
A fun and impressive opening performance of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" kicked off the evening, and the contestants took the stage one by one for the the casual wear competition, each contestant also shared with the audience and judges a unique piece of Lakeside History!
In the formal wear competition the contestants, escorted by members of the Lakeside Fire Department, each answered an onstage impromptu question.
Welcoming in the new titleholders is always bittersweet for Director Jill Fleming, as it comes hand in hand with a sentimental farewell to the young women that she works with and mentors all year.
It was an emotional moment as Miss Lakeside 2016 Kayla Rumley, Teen Miss Lakeside 2016 Noelle Day, and Pre-Teen Jr. Miss Lakeside 2016 Audrey Acuna said their final farewell. Their tears of sadness were soon replaced with joy as they crowned their 2017 "Sister Queens".
The young ladies who earned this year's Queen titles, Miss Lakeside 2017 Francesca Barnes, Teen Miss Lakeside 2017 Trinity Stewart, and Pre-Teen Jr. Miss Lakeside Brooklyn Campbell; were greeted with a roar of applause, many tears of joy and warm embraces as they were crowned on this special evening. These young ladies have a big year to look forward to alongside their princesses, and we know they will continue to make Lakeside proud!
